Desert Bloom Wedding Inspiration

Winnie van Heerden - Wednesday, July 20, 2016

In recent years, the boho wedding trend has exploded in Southern California. This desert wedding inspiration shoot in Joshua Tree is equal parts bohemian and elegant, and perfect for the bride with a more high-end style that still wants to embrace the desert vibe and its natural surroundings. The bride and bridesmaid dresses are a lovely combination of lace with a soft mint pastel that is echoed in the table settings.

To create the floral suite for this shoot, I really drew inspiration from our surroundings - the desert. A decadent combination of succulents, baby pink roses and peonies, protea, and accents like peach hypericum berries and blue thistle decorated the bouquets. Protea is a newly popular flower that adds a dramatic flair to your bouquet; it creates an element of uniqueness while allowing the overall look to be quite elegant.

4th of July Inspired Design

Winnie van Heerden - Thursday, June 23, 2016

Inspired by the Fourth of July, we teamed up with the lovely Nicole Gillis of Nicole Alexandra Designs (once again!) to create a bright, summery design that incorporated the iconic red, white, and blue without going overboard. For the design, we incorporated loose shades from the palette to give the shoot a more softer, sophisticated aesthetic. ...read more

Styled Shoot: Malibu Oaks

Winnie van Heerden - Friday, May 20, 2016

With a venue this stunning and an amazing vendor lineup, from the beginning, this shoot was destined to be picture-perfect. Using a berry-hued palette as our inspiration, together with Rock N' Events, we managed to set the tone for the intricate details of a wedding ceremony and reception design.

For the floral accents, I created lush, romantic garlands —full of greenery and roses with hues of reds, pink and violets. Because why have linen runners when we can make our own with flowers! Complementing the garland and floral pieces were centerpieces situated in golden mercury vases, with succulent pomander balls and bunches of grapes to add a Tuscany flare to the design.

With gold flatware, gold rimmed wine goblets provided by MTB Rentals, specialty laced place mats, and a pop of color from the dark-hued leaf chargers, the table setting was truly stunning.

The gold place settings were topped with mini Moscow mule shot glasses, each one filled with fresh grapes, raspberries and blackberries. To top it all off, hanging over the dream-like reception decor were romantic chandeliers.

It's all in the details, after all... ...read more

The Deconstructed Bride

Winnie van Heerden - Friday, April 15, 2016

I am absolutely in love with the concept of the "deconstructed bride" for this styled bridal shoot. My words couldn't do justice to this concept, so I'll let the mastermind behind the design idea explain...

Lavish and Bold Table Design

Winnie van Heerden - Tuesday, March 15, 2016

It was an honor to be featured on the cover of Ceremony Magazine recently for this bold and beautiful styled shoot.

Styled shoots are the perfect way to experiment with textures, colors and designs - and that’s what we did with this deeply hued tablescape. The inspiration for this table design stemmed from the rich, elegant colors of purple. We incorporated different rentals, linens and florals to highlight the bold purple palette.

Of course, with any design, it's all in the details Following the latest trend we paired the we paired deep purple flowers with fresh grapes and pomegranates. Incorporating fresh fruit provided stunning color and a pop of texture. Paired with the exposed wood table and metallic silverware, this table design is perfect for al-fresco entertaining! ...read more

Bright, Exuberant Indian Wedding

Winnie van Heerden - Thursday, February 11, 2016

Over the course of three days, this amazing bride and groom celebrated their union with Hindu ceremonies and traditions full of color, joy and personal details. This couple traveled from Chicago in order to celebrate their nuptials in an exuberant 3-day celebration. Per tradition, their celebration was divided into two parts. The first is the Sangeet, a party with celebration and dancing. They had amazing details such as strewn rose petals around beautiful colored lanterns and an abundance of food trucks, in true Californian style.

The second is the ceremony. The ceremony included a full day celebration that was separated into two as well. The first half of the day was the ceremony which included the groom's traditional Baraat and the beautiful ceremony under the colorful Mandap. This continued later into the evening with the bride and groom under a beautifully decorated arbor and a lively reception filled with amazing details.

It was truly an honor and a privilege to be a part of such a special celebration for Swati and Sachin. ...read more

California Wedding Day's Best of Bride Gala

Winnie van Heerden - Tuesday, January 05, 2016

I was honored to be a part of California Wedding Day Magazine's “Best of Brides 2015” Awards Celebration and assist in the design for their entrance and cocktail rooms.

Lead by the vision of the amazing Nicole Gillis from Nicole Alexandra Designs, we worked to create a space adorned with an eclectic mix of Moroccan colors and elements. With the hard work from all of the vendor team, we transformed the lobby and ballroom into a lush, magical, and exotic space!

Our main goal was to leave no corner of the room undecorated. Specialty vintage furniture from Archive Rentals set the tone for the room, which we then outfitted with exuberant floral work. Lush greenery from Jackson Shrub and lighting from Ambiance AV set the perfect ambiance for our cocktail space. To top it all off, NFP Productions provided stunning draping to truly transform the space into paradise.

It's always a privilege to team up with some of the industry's finest vendors for a lovely industry-wide event. Check out the pictures and you'll see why! ...read more

Whimsical, Outdoor Big Bear Styled Shoot

Winnie van Heerden - Thursday, November 12, 2015

Living in Southern California, we are blessed with a wide variety of terrain and settings to host beautiful outdoor weddings. From the beach to the mountains, there is never a lack of stunning outdoor spots. With any al fresco setting, it is important to create a floral design that complements (not competes with) your surroundings. Different settings require different floral recipes, but that doesn't ever mean sacrificing beauty and elegance.

For this styled shoot, we created an elevated woodsy and natural feel based on our setting - Big Bear Lake. Sticking true to our setting, we used Silver Dollar Eucalyptus and Pine cones from the surrounding forest to line the ceremony site. We incorporated other natural elements like Scabiosa pods, Millet, succulents, Thistle, Pepperberry and enriched it with dark Calla lilies, Kangaroo Paw, Dahlias and hanging Amaranthus. To lighten it up, we added some peach garden roses and ornamental Kale to create a soft and romantic vibe.  ...read more

Beach Anniversary Session

Winnie van Heerden - Tuesday, October 13, 2015

I am a firm believer that anniversaries should not be forgotten - especially those as monumental as a tenth anniversary. After getting married in Malibu a decade ago, Matt and Amy celebrated their tenth anniversary by having a shoot on the beach. Incorporating gold and pink details into a beach setting gave the shoot a romantic and chic feel. I absolutely loved designing floral accents to outfit this amazing couple's celebration!  ...read more
