FlorUnique is the vision that became a reality for Winnie Van Heerden, owner and main designer. Leaving South Africa, her native country, she accompanied her husband to California where he had business interests. Her PhD in Industrial Sociology and background as a researcher on political trends had given her a busy life, but she was ready to explore new challenges in California.
Her natural creative talent and affinity for flowers led her to take floral design classes. Under the training of well-respected teacher and coach, Hiromi Yamagata, an unsuspected talent was revealed, and her future path opened before her. More floral design classes followed with the direction of world-renowned floral designer, Phil Rulloda. Pottery, Drawing, Pastel, Watercolor, Ikebana, Feng Shui, and Interior Decorating all contributed to her sense of style, color, and composition.
In 2003, Winnie became a member of the Entertainment Arts Team at Disneyland California. She has been involved in decorating the Haunted Mansion, floats and events for Disney's 50th celebration, and the new Disney holiday addition, Reindeer Ranch. In addition to her work at Disney, Winnie does floral décor for weddings and special events in the South Bay. And so, as she received plaudits for her talent and effort, her vision became reality and FlorUnique was born! |
